WZ Defender help and manual

Quick answers, the full manual and how to contact the author.

Is WZ Defender free?

Yes, completely: no ads, no accounts and no locked features, like the rest of the WZ suite.

What does BETA mean?

That it already works and I use it myself every day, but it keeps growing and may have bugs. Every new version arrives with a notice and installs with one key.

Can I get banned for using it?

WZ Defender isn’t injected into the game and doesn’t read its memory or its network: it captures the screen like OBS and reads the HUD text with Windows’ text recognition. Even so, no third-party program can guarantee anything about the anticheat: use it at your own discretion.

Do I need OBS, SteelSeries Moments or Python?

No. WZ Defender is a single program that uses Windows screen capture and your card’s video encoder. You don’t need to install anything else.

Does it lower my FPS?

Very little: compression is done by your card’s video chip, just like in OBS. If your PC is modest, use the “light” profile (30 fps).

Does it work in exclusive fullscreen?

No: Windows doesn’t allow capturing exclusive fullscreen. Use “Fullscreen Borderless” in Warzone.

Where are my clips and stats saved?

In Videos\WZ Defender: one folder per day with Bajas (kills), Muertes (deaths) and Manual, plus the estadisticas.jsonl file with all your stats. Nothing is uploaded to the internet (unless you ask for the AI analysis of a clip).

Does it work with the game in Spanish?

The detector reads the HUD text in English. Set the game to English so it detects your kills, deaths and matches.

Manual

User manual v0.10.43

User manual

WZ Defender records your Call of Duty: Warzone matches the way OBS's replay buffer or SteelSeries Moments do, without depending on them: it saves the last seconds whenever you want and, automatically, a clip of every kill, down and death (with the full killcam). Each clip goes into your list with everything that was on screen: who you eliminated or who eliminated you, their clan, level and rank, the weapon, the medals, the kill number, the game, the mode, the map and the location. And every clip can be analyzed with AI.

This manual is for version 0.10.43 (October 25, 2026). WZ Defender is in BETA: it works, but it keeps growing with every version.

How it works

  • Captures like OBS: it uses Windows screen capture (the same one OBS uses) and your graphics card's video encoder (NVIDIA, AMD or Intel). The last seconds live in RAM, already compressed; saving writes an MP4 in under a second.
  • It doesn't touch the game: it doesn't inject into Warzone or read its memory. It only sees what you see on screen. The detector reads the HUD with the text recognition built into Windows.
  • Local and free: nothing is uploaded. The only online request is checking for a new version (once a day).

Getting started

Installation (once)

  1. Download the .zip from wzcontrol.app/defender. Right-click the .zip → Properties → ☑ Unblock → OK.
  2. Right-click → Extract All… → type C:\. You get the folder C:\WZDefender.
  3. Double-click Instalar.bat: it creates the WZ Defender, WZ Defender - Clips and WZ Defender - Configuracion (settings) shortcuts on the Desktop and Start menu. It doesn't need administrator rights.
  4. In Warzone use Fullscreen Borderless (Display Mode). Exclusive fullscreen can't be captured by Windows.

The first time you open it

  1. Open WZ Defender. It starts recording in the background, its icon sits in the system tray (the icons next to the Windows clock; if you don't see it, click the ^ arrow) and its window opens.
  2. The first time, the window opens on Ajustes → Audio (Settings → Audio): pick the device where you hear Warzone (your headphones; with Sonar, its «Gaming» channel) and your microphone, or «No grabar» (don't record).
  3. Some changes need WZ Defender to restart: press Reiniciar ahora (restart now; it takes a few seconds).
Tip: drag the WZ Defender icon from the ^ arrow to the taskbar to keep it always visible.

The WZ Defender window

Like WZ Control: a menu at the top with three tabs, plus which game is open, whether the detector is reading and a ● Guardar clip (save clip) button, always visible.

TabWhat's there
ClipsThe first thing you see when the app opens: your clips with all their details (see «Your clips»).
Ajustes (Settings)Every option (see «Settings»).
Ayuda (Help)This manual (Spanish and English, with a table of contents), Actualizaciones (updates), the log, ❤ Apoyar (donations) and «About».

Switching tabs keeps what you were looking at. You can close the window any time: WZ Defender keeps recording in the tray.

The tray icon

  • Click the icon: opens the window on Clips.
  • Right-click: open WZ Defender, Ajustes… (settings), save a clip now, turn the detector on or off (instantly, no restart), open the clips folder, help, view the log, check for updates, restart WZ Defender and Salir (exit).
  • Hover it to see which game is open, whether it's recording and how many seconds the buffer holds. The game also shows at the top of the menu and at the top right of the window: cod25-cod.exe = Warzone · Black Ops 7, cod.exe or cod26-cod.exe = Modern Warfare 4 (if both are open, Warzone wins).
  • Important notices (update available, errors) arrive as Windows notifications.
  • If you open WZ Defender while it's already running, its window comes to the front (there are never two copies recording). The WZ Defender - Clips shortcut opens it on Clips and WZ Defender - Configuracion on Settings.

Recording clips

KeyWhat it does
Ctrl+WSaves the last seconds (buffer) to Videos\WZ Defender\<date>\Manual
Ctrl+Shift+EOpens your Clips list
Ctrl+Shift+UChecks for or installs an update (outside a match)

A soft sound plays and an on-screen notice appears every time a clip is saved (see below). All keys can be changed in Settings → Teclas (click «Grabar» and press the combination).

Automatic clips per scene

When the detector sees a kill, a down or your death, it saves the clip by itself. The clip is only the event: from 5 s before until it ends (the 60 s buffer is there to give the detector room, not to save all of it). Several events in a row (a kill streak, getting downed and then finished) go into one clip, with a .json file next to it marking the exact second of each event.

  • Kills: 5 s before the first one until 5 s after the last one, in the Bajas folder.
  • Down (you were knocked and no killcam followed, e.g. you got revived): 5 s before and a few seconds after, in Muertes.
  • Death: from 5 s before you were downed until the killcam ends (the full killcam, start to finish), in Muertes. This is the one that tells whether it was fair.
  • Change the seconds before in Settings → Detector y clips → Segundos antes del evento.
  • With the disk limit (50 GB by default) the oldest automatic clips are deleted. Archived clips (📌) and manual clips are never deleted.

Your voice in the clips

In Ajustes → Audio (Settings → Audio), pick your microphone (or «No grabar») and:

  • Micrófono dentro del video (microphone inside the video; on, as always): your voice goes in the same video, mixed with the game. Off: the video has only the game and your voice is saved separately next to the clip, with the same name plus _mic.m4a (e.g. WZD_2026-10-25_14-18-01_baja_mic.m4a). It starts at the same second as the video, so you can remove it or turn it up or down when editing; WZ Creator recognizes it. In Clips it plays along with the video (🎙 Mi voz box in the player). Deleting the clip deletes its voice too.
  • Nivelar mi voz (level my voice; on): some wireless receivers send the voice on one side only; this centers it and raises the volume only while you talk (up to +18 dB, without raising the noise in silence), like Discord's or OBS's automatic adjustment.
  • Volumen del micrófono: on top of that, up to 400%.
  • If you plug your microphone into another USB port, WZ Defender finds it by its name. If it's not connected, it uses the Windows default until it comes back (the log says so).

These changes apply when WZ Defender restarts (Reiniciar ahora button).

On-screen notices

Every time a clip is saved, an animated card slides in at the top of your screen, stays a few seconds and fades out, with the same name as the clip:

NoticeWhen
BAJAYou eliminated someone
RACHA x2, x3…Several kills in a row in one clip
DERRIBOYou were downed (and no killcam followed)
MUERTE · KILLCAMYou were eliminated (the clip has the full killcam)
CLIP MANUALYou saved it yourself (Ctrl+W or the menu)

Below it go the enemies' names (and the weapon that killed you) and how many seconds the clip has. It only shows when something happens: the rest of the time there's nothing over the game. It doesn't appear in your clips or in OBS (Windows excludes it from capture) and it doesn't touch the game. In Settings → Avisos you turn it on or off, choose where it appears (top center, right below the compass; top right or left; bottom center), its size and how many seconds it stays, with a preview and Probar aviso en mi pantalla (test it on my screen).

Detector

The detector reads the HUD 4 times per second and recognizes:

  • Your kills: the «ELIMINATED» card, with the enemy's name and level and medals (HEADSHOT, LONGSHOT, DOUBLE KILL…).
  • When you get downed: the left killfeed row «Enemy [weapon] You». It's the most reliable way to know WHEN you were knocked and by WHOM. If you're finished much later, those are two events: the down and the elimination.
  • Your deaths (elimination): the full KILLCAM and the «KILLED BY» card, with name, clan, rank, level and weapon of who eliminated you, and how many shot you («ATTACKERS»). If the card can't be read, the name comes from the killfeed. The winner's «FINAL KILL» cam doesn't count as your death.
  • Game, mode, map and location: the game by its program (Warzone · Black Ops 7, Modern Warfare 4), the mode and map from the objectives screen at the start (or from the menu when you pick the mode) and the location under the compass. They go into every clip. In the pregame lobby (warm-up) kills don't count.
  • The kill number: the «4TH KILL» on the ELIMINATED card is saved as the 4th kill of that match.
  • Your kills in the killfeed: the left list «You [weapon] Enemy». To read it, WZ Defender needs your gamertag: it learns it from your first kills (when the ELIMINATED card and the killfeed match), or you can type it in Settings → Detector y clips → Tu gamertag.

WZ Defender no longer counts matches, wins or kills: it focuses on recording every event with all its details and on the AI analysis.

The detector only reads while the game (Warzone · Black Ops 7 or Modern Warfare 4, recognized by their program) is in front. If you minimize it or put another window over it (the WZ Defender window, a chat, the browser), it pauses by itself, so it never mistakes what's on your screen for the game. Turn it on or off instantly from the tray menu or in Settings → Detector y clips.

Turn on «Show Objectives» in Warzone (the objectives screen shown when the match starts): that's where WZ Defender reads each match's mode and map (Resurgence Casual · Haunted Hollow, etc.). It also reads them from the menu when you pick the mode. The HUD can be moved in the game: the detector searches by text, not by exact position.

Everything is stored in Videos\WZ Defender\estadisticas.jsonl (one line per event, with its clip). It's plain text: your Clips list comes from it.

Your clips

It's the tab you see when the app opens (also with Ctrl+Shift+E, a click on the tray icon or the WZ Defender - Clips shortcut). The list goes from newest to oldest, grouped by day, and updates by itself when a new clip is saved.

  • Filters: Today, 7 days, 30 days or All; Kills, Downs, Deaths or Manual; by mode; and a search box (player, clan, weapon, map, location, medal…).
  • Each event says what happened and with whom («Eliminaste a …» you eliminated, «Te tumbó …» downed you, «Te eliminó …» eliminated you) and, below, everything read from the screen: game, mode, map, location, clan, level, rank, kill number, medals, weapon and attachments, how many shot you, who had downed you, how long the killcam lasted, how many times that player has killed you (or you've eliminated them) and the clip length. Manual clips are in the list too.
  • Clip space: how much your automatic clips take against your disk limit (and, separately, archived and manual clips).
  • On each event:
    • ▶ ver plays only that moment, looping. Under the video: the clip's events (click to see another), 🔁 Repetir, 🐢 0.4× slow motion and Ver clip completo. Cerrar (Esc) takes you back.
    • 🧠 analyzes it with AI (with ✓ if it already has an analysis).
    • A checkbox to select it (Shift+click selects a range; Seleccionar todo at the top). Once one is checked, a bar appears at the bottom with how many are selected, Select all / Deselect all, 📌 Archive and 🗑 Delete:
    • 📌 Archive: their clips are never deleted, even when the space fills up. The rest are recycled (oldest first). A 📌 next to an event means its clip is archived.
    • 🗑 Delete removes the events from the list. If a clip is left without events it's deleted too (video, .json and analysis); it tells you how many clips go first. In the player, 🗑 Borrar clip deletes a clip with all its events.
    • Esc deselects everything; Delete deletes the selection.

Deleting and archiving need WZ Defender running.Deleting and archiving need WZ Defender running.

Only one Clips window opens: if it's already open it comes to the front and refreshes by itself. Your history from earlier versions is still there: old events take their mode and map from the match they happened in.

AI analysis

Next to each clip in your list there is 🧠 (and Analizar con IA in the player). A window opens with the clip and the Analizar con Gemini button; in a minute or two (meanwhile you see live which model is working, the upload, each step and what the AI is thinking) it tells you, short and to the point:

  • How and why the fight went that way, where you were shot from and who saw whom first.
  • Aim: crosshair placement, tracking, recoil and whether you fired without hitting.
  • Positioning, your mistakes and good plays with the exact second, tips and the key moments: click and only that moment plays (2 s before and 3 s after), looping with 🔁 Repetir and in 🐢 0.4× slow motion if you tick it.
  • The AI sees only the event segment (from 5 s before until the killcam or the last kill ends), not the whole clip: it doesn't over-analyze and uses less of your quota.
  • Was it fair? If there is a killcam, the odd signals it shows (tracking you through walls or smoke, instant snaps…) with a suspicion level and the legitimate explanation for each. It's only a suspicion: the killcam is delayed and proves nothing.

To turn it on (once): go to aistudio.google.com/apikey with your Google account → «Create API key» (free, no card) → paste it in Settings → IA → Probar clave. The clip is uploaded to Google for the analysis and deleted afterwards; with the free key Google may use it to improve its products. The analysis is saved next to the clip: viewing it again doesn't use your free quota. WZ Defender must be running.

Updates

WZ Defender checks for a new version when it opens (once a day). If there is one, a Windows notification tells you. It never installs by itself. Everything is in Ayuda → Actualizaciones (Help → Updates): your version, Buscar actualizaciones (check), what's new in the new version, Actualizar ahora (update now) and the Buscar al abrir (check on startup) box.

  1. Finish your match.
  2. In Ayuda → Actualizaciones, Actualizar ahora. Also with Ctrl+Shift+U or the tray menu → Buscar actualizaciones (with the key, the first time it tells you what's new; the second time it installs).
  3. It downloads it, checks that it's the one published by the author (digital signature and file fingerprint) and WZ Defender closes for a moment: a copy of it does a clean install (removes the whole previous version, with a backup, and puts the new one in place) and reopens it already updated. It's the same updater WZ Control and WZ Creator use.

Your settings (data\), tools\ and your clips (with their list) are not touched. If something fails, the previous version is restored and you are notified. What happened is logged in data\actualizacion\actualizacion.log.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get banned for using it?

WZ Defender doesn't inject into the game or read its memory or network: it captures the screen like OBS and reads the HUD text. Still, no third-party program can guarantee anything about the anti-cheat: use it at your own discretion.

Does it lower my FPS or raise my latency?

Compression is done by your graphics card's video chip (the same one OBS uses) and WZ Defender's GPU work runs at the lowest priority. Even so, any screen recording that doesn't inject into the game makes Windows compose every frame, which can add a few milliseconds of latency (the same happens with OBS «Display Capture»). To make it lighter: resolucion = 1080 in [grabacion] (records lower; your game still looks the same) and, if needed, the ligero profile (30 fps). The log records «retrasados» (late) frames every minute: they should stay at 0.

It doesn't detect my kills or deaths

Check that the game is in Fullscreen Borderless and in English, that the detector is on (tray menu) and that the log (Ayuda → Registro) says [DETECTOR] Juego al frente. If it says En pausa: el juego no está al frente (ventana: …) while the game is in front, send me that line. If Windows doesn't have English text recognition, add it in Settings → Time & language → Language → Add English (United States).

I can't see the on-screen notices

The game must be in Fullscreen Borderless. Check in Settings → Avisos that they're on and press Probar aviso en mi pantalla. Remember they only show when a clip is saved.

Where did the overlay with matches and kills go?

Since v0.9 WZ Defender no longer counts matches, wins or kills (and has no stream overlay): it focuses on recording every event with all its details and on the AI analysis. Instead, the on-screen notices confirm every saved clip.

Where did the black window go?

Since v0.7 WZ Defender doesn't use a console: it lives in the tray, next to the clock. What used to show in the console is now in the log (data\wzdefender.log): Ayuda → Registro (Help → Log), or tray menu → Ver registro.

How do I close WZ Defender?

Right-click the icon → Salir (or Ajustes → Más → Salir). Its window closes too. Closing just the window doesn't close WZ Defender: it keeps recording in the tray.
